Reporter-labeled cells
Reporter-labeled cells are genetically modified cells that express a detectable marker or reporter gene, which is used to track, monitor, or study the behavior of these cells in real-time. The reporter gene encodes a protein that can produce a measurable signal, such as fluorescence, luminescence, or color change, which makes the cells easier to visualize or quantify.
Common reporter genes include:
Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP): Emits green fluorescence under specific light conditions.
Luciferase: Produces light when exposed to a substrate (used for in vivo imaging).
β-galactosidase: Induces a color change when a specific substrate is added.
Reporter-labeled cells are used in various applications, including drug screening, gene expression studies, cell tracking, and monitoring of cellular processes, providing valuable insights into cellular behavior, gene function, and disease progression.
